CUSTOMIZABLE OPEN LETTER AD NOW AVAILABLE TO HIGHLIGHT TEEN PROM, GRADUATION PARTY RISKS

** PDF File Allows You to Add Your Organization, Logo, and Local Partners and Distribute in Your Community **
As prom and graduation season approaches, teens may feel pressure to party with alcohol and drugs. In anticipation of this high-risk period, the National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign is reissuing a customizable version of the "Senior Year" Open Letter ad that you can use in your schools and communities to reach parents and encourage them to stay vigilant during prom and graduation time.

Although teen drug use is down 24 percent since 2001, surveys show that nearly one in three high school seniors was drunk in the last month, and more than one in five used an illicit drug. Last year, about seven in 10 prom-age teens said they would attend an after-prom party. By distributing the "Senior Year" Open Letter to parents in your community, you can help keep prom and graduation activities safe by encouraging parents to ask questions about their teens' plans and talk to them about saying no to drugs and alcohol, while still having a good time.

The Open Letter ad is now available for you to use, customize, and distribute to local media, your members, partners, and parents. To help further this important message in your community, consider these tactics:
• Add your organization's name and logo to the Campaign Open Letter ad;
• Recruit local signatories and insert local names and logos;
• Localize the national Campaign message on the ad; and
• Distribute throughout your community: school districts, newspaper ad buys, donated ad space, and town hall meetings.
The customizable version is easily downloadable from TheAntiDrug.com at: www.theantidrug.com/openletter/Senior_Year_Editable.pdf.  Other Open Letter ads and free resources are available at: www.TheAntiDrug.com/Resources.

WHAT IS THE FATAL EXPERIENCE DRIVING SIMULATION?

It is a way teens can gain real-life exposure to the perils of impaired driving without being put at risk.  The driver wears vision impairment goggles that simulate the experience of being impaired.  A trained mentor in the front passenger seat rides along with the "impaired" student driver and up to two rear seat passengers.  The student driver experiences what it is like to operate the vehicle while "impaired".  The passengers experience what it is like to be riding with an impaired driver. See link to the left for complete program information.

Register Now for Kick Butts Day

Last year Kick Butts Day had events taking place in every state across the country. These events generated nearly 700 television stories and hundreds of print and radio stories - reaching millions of people!
We need your help this year to make KBD 2008 better than ever. KBD is quickly approaching, and we need you to register any KBD events you are planning.
Registering is quick and easy but also extremely important in order to make KBD a strong and effective day of youth activism and advocacy. The KBD Team needs to know what events are taking place each year so that we can include information about the events in our press materials, on our website, and in next year's KBD materials. It is important to let the media know about creative KBD events they should be covering, and also to highlight key activities in our KBD materials for others to learn from your successful events.
So, visit www.kickbuttsday.org  and register your event today! You can also request a free KBD activity guide if you haven't done so already.
